It’s still very inappropriate to use this meme in contexts where someone might get offended at the idea of a German soldier with a flamethrower burning someone alive. “Hans, get the flammenwerfer” is almost never a literal call to violence. “Hans, get the flammenwerfer” means “wow, that’s not the kind of thing that I think should be allowed.” It’s an allusion to the idea of calling a soldier with a flamethrower to literally torch the thing or person it’s replying to. ![]()
